BEST TIME TO VISIT MOROCCO AND WHAT TO DO

Morocco is a year-round destination, but each season gives you a different trip: warm beaches, green valleys, desert nights or big Atlantic waves. Here is when to go, what to do, and how we live it every day at our surf house in Anza, Agadir.

QUICK ANSWER

WHEN SHOULD YOU GO TO MOROCCO?

  • Best months overall: March to May and September to November: warm days, mild nights and comfortable temperatures from the coast to Marrakech.
  • Beach and coast: Agadir has around 300 sunny days a year. Summer is warm without the heat of the inland cities, and winter days still reach about 20 °C.
  • Marrakech and the desert: Avoid July and August, when Marrakech often goes above 35 °C. October to April is the best time for the desert, with cold nights in winter.
  • Surfing: Every month. We surf every day of the year, the season only changes the size of the waves.

For the surf side of the year, read our month-by-month surf guide.

THE SEASONS

MOROCCO SEASON BY SEASON

Morocco has two climates in one trip: the Atlantic coast stays mild all year, while Marrakech and the inland valleys get hot in summer and cold at night in winter.

SPRING – MoroccoBEST FOR: EVERYTHING

SPRING

  • March – May
  • Coast about 22–24 °C
  • Green valleys

The best all-round season. The Atlas valleys are green, Paradise Valley’s natural pools are full after the winter rains, and the weather is perfect for day trips and surfing.

SUMMER – MoroccoBEST FOR: BEACH & BEGINNERS

SUMMER

  • June – August
  • Coast about 25–28 °C
  • Water 20–22 °C

Beach time. The Atlantic breeze keeps Agadir comfortable while Marrakech is very hot. Small, clean waves make it a great time to learn to surf.

AUTUMN – MoroccoBEST FOR: SURF & DAY TRIPS

AUTUMN

  • September – November
  • Coast about 23–27 °C
  • Fewer crowds

Warm sea, long sunny days and the first bigger swells. A favourite time for guests who want to surf, explore and relax in the same trip.

WINTER – MoroccoBEST FOR: SUN & BIG WAVES

WINTER

  • December – February
  • Coast about 20–21 °C
  • Cool nights

The sun escape from the European winter. Agadir stays mild, the famous surf points work, and it is a good time to visit the desert and the medinas.

OUR EXPERIENCE

A WEEK WITH US AT WAVES HUNTER

Every day at the house starts the same way: a homemade breakfast and a look at the waves. Then our coaches choose the spot that fits the conditions and your level, from Anza and Banana Point to Devil’s Rock, Taghazout or, on the right days, Imsouane. We surf every day of the year.

After the session there is time for the rest of Morocco: a half day in Paradise Valley, sandboarding at the Timlalin dunes, a hammam, or a walk to Anza beach, four minutes from the house. In the evening everyone meets on the rooftop for the sunset, then La Mama serves dinner: fresh, homemade Moroccan food, shared at the same table. On some nights the coaches play the videos of your session, and the whole house learns and laughs together.

That mix is what our guests remember most. In their words:

“I booked for 2 nights and stayed 8, as soon as I left I wanted to go back.” – Sarah, United States

“There are so many amazing activities to do and you will feel so at home.” – Leila, United Kingdom

“Lots of excursions available to book & travel direct from property. The evening meals were superb.” – Anouska, United Kingdom
